Put Your Health First This Halloween – 4 Super Safe Alternatives to Trick-Or-Treating

Forget Frankenstein, COVID-19 is the real boogeyman in 2020. Because traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating will put people at risk of catching the coronavirus this year, the CDC strongly advises celebrating Halloween at home.

Forget Frankenstein, COVID-19 is the real boogeyman in 2020. Because traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating will put people at risk of catching the coronavirus this year, the CDC strongly advises celebrating Halloween at home.

Of course, that doesn’t mean you and your little ones can’t have a monstrously marvelous time this October. There are countless kid-friendly and creative Halloween ideas cycling through social media.

In this post, I’m going to share four fiendishly fun and family-friendly Halloween activities. So please, keep reading…if you dare! 😉

Four Safe Alternatives to Trick-Or-Treating

Bake Or Brew A Few Ghoulish Goodies

Anyone who has read my previous blog posts will know I’m a big fan of introducing the kiddos to the kitchen as early as possible. So, if you’re baking any terrifying treats this Halloween, why not make it a family affair?

There are many freaky & fab cooking suggestions online, but here are a few of my favorites:

• Make “avocado toast monsters” using seaweed for hair, radishes or olives for eyes, and bell peppers for bloody lips.

• Bake a yummy “mummy pizza” with cheese, zucchini strips, and olives.

• Brew a bloody beverage with ginger ale, Hawaiian Punch, and red hot candies.

Grab Your Nimbus 2000! – Try A Harry Potter-Themed Halloween

For all you wizards and witches out there, why not schedule a Harry Potter binge-fest this Halloween? Better yet, use this October to introduce your little ones to these spellbinding novels.

Many children have become lifelong readers thanks to Harry, Ron, and Hermione — and what could be more magical than that? Because these novels have so many memorable moments, it’s easy to encourage little ones to make artwork, games, or music as they finish each book.

Before you start streaming the Sorcerer’s Stone, be sure to brew a tall glass of Butterbeer! Don’t worry mommas, there’s no actual beer in this bubbly beverage. Just mix a can of cream soda with a pinch of caramel extract and butter extract…and don’t forget the whipped cream!

A CDC-Approved Classic: Pumpkin Carving

Thankfully, not all traditional Halloween festivities are listed as “high-risk” by the CDC. Indeed, one popular activity that’s perfectly safe is designing and carving pumpkins. You could even invite friends and family to carve pumpkins together, provided you’re all outside and wearing face masks or keeping at least six feet apart.

Of course, when I say carving pumpkins is “safe,” I mean from the COVID-19 perspective. Never let go of your carving knife, and only let your little pumpkin do age-appropriate designing and decorating. Pumpkin painting is always a fun and safe alternative for the kiddos!

Easter Eggs For Halloween? Only In 2020!

Ok, this one’s my favorite! You don’t need to stroll around the neighborhood to enjoy trick-or-treating this year. Many parents are already putting together crafty at-home trick-or-treating activities.

One sensational idea is to send your little pirates on a “candy treasure hunt.” Write up a few clever clues or maps to lead your kiddos on a quest for chocolatey goodness!

Alternatively, you could organize a “Halloween Easter egg hunt” around your house. Hide candies all around your home and then let your little goblins collect them all. Weather-permitting, you could also hide a few goodies outside.

Here’s To a Healthy Halloween!

There’s no denying it: COVID-19 is changing how we celebrate the holidays. However, change isn’t always a bad thing. You can still make this Halloween extra spooktacular with a few of these tips.
