If you’re looking to slow down and relax after a hectic week, have a family movie night! Movie nights are a great way to enjoy some low-key, quality family time without having to travel far or break the bank. All you need are some snacks, a couple of blankets and a Netflix subscription, but there are also hundreds of great kids movies available on other streaming platforms like Hulu and Amazon Prime.
No need to scroll through titles and fight over which film to watch—use this list of some of the best family movies to watch together. If you’re still having trouble deciding, put your top three picks on paper and let your kiddo pull the winner out of a hat or bowl!
1. Coco (2017)

A young boy has dreams of becoming a musician despite his family’s longstanding ban on music. This movie has stunning illustrations and a powerful message of the importance of family. Plus, the soundtrack is so fun! Coco is a heartwarming movie about family that will have you singing along in no time.
2. Hotel Transylvania (2012)

Hotel Transylvania is about the over-protective Count Dracula, and his daughter, Mavis. Set in the Count’s high-end resort for monsters, it features tons of fun, wacky creatures that get caught up in crazy adventures. While most people wouldn’t think of Dracula as family-friendly movie material, this is a sweet comedy that kids and parents will both enjoy.
3. Lilo and Stitch (2002)

This story of friendship and family follows Lilo, a young Hawaiian girl who adopts what she thinks is a dog but turns out to be an alien named Stitch. This movie shows a special relationship between sisters and teaches the powerful lesson that it’s always better to be yourself. I absolutely love the quote about family from this movie: “Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.”
4. Incredibles 2 (2018)

The superhero Parr family is back, and this time they have to face down a new foe with an evil plan. The movie also explores how the family deals with everyday issues, like changing dynamics, dating and more. There’s even a subtle lesson on the dangers of too much screen time! Make it a double feature and watch the original Incredibles (2004), but be sure to take an intermission to stretch your legs and switch off the TV for a little while.
5. The Emperor’s New Groove (2000)

When a rude emperor is magically (and accidentally) transformed into a llama, he must learn to work together with others to get back into human form. The movie teaches kids important lessons about being kind to others, no matter your differences. Hilariously funny and featuring some great vocal performances from actors adults know and love, this movie is a new-age classic worth watching.
6. Peter Rabbit (2018)

Peter Rabbit (yep, the same furry friend whose adventures many grew up reading about!) has a fight with Mr. McGregor for the love of the woman next door. Backed by his triplet sisters, Peter uses his wit and attitude to get him through different challenges. It’s a totally new take on the classic storybook.
7. Bolt (2008)

A Hollywood puppy finds himself far from home and must make his way back to his movie studio. On set, he plays a pup with superpowers, but he learns on his journey home that his powers were just part of the show. However, he makes friends––a sassy cat and hilarious hamster––along the way and learns to tap into the strength within him. Bolt is a sweet story of friendship, perfect for all ages.
8. 101 Dalmatians (1996)

This movie is about siblings working together and overcoming challenges. When two dalmatians and their owners meet and fall in love, the dalmatians have a litter of puppies. When the evil Cruella De Vil dognaps the pups to make them into fur coats, they must work together to escape and make it back home.
9. Hercules (1997)

This movie follows Hercules––the son of Zeus––as he is raised on Earth by his adopted parents. Before he knew about his powers and how to control them, he was outcasted by the rest of the kids in the village. The movie shares a lovely message about being yourself no matter what others say and the importance of sticking up for the people you love.
10. Mary Poppins (1964) and Mary Poppins Returns (2018)

Walt Disney Productions—Mary Poppins
Lucamar Productions—Mary Poppins Returns
Oh my goodness, where do I begin with Mary Poppins!? While neither film is available on a streaming service just yet, I can’t make a list about my favorite children’s movies without them. A magical nanny named Mary Poppins teaches children lessons on happiness, bravery and more. I will always recommend Mary Poppins’ movies for kids and parents!
